Heredity gave dogs voices but there are ways to correct most of the sounds that come from dogs. Dogs in Winnetka that bark at the noise of the family's doorbell or a knock on the door need to be taught a greeting ritual. It is their job to bark when a stranger comes to your Winnetka house but you should train them that an OK command from you means you have the situation under control and your dog guardian can stop growling.
Another complaint we hear from pet owners is the barking at objects such as a broom or wheelchairs. These are all things a pet can learn to live with quietly. Running the property lines and barking at your Winnetka neighbors and their dogs should not be tolerated bad dog behavior either. This "distance" barking can be corrected through training sometimes needing a mild zap collar so you can correct your dog from inside the home. It really doesn't take long for them to learn.
Most importantly, you must remember that a dog's hearing is over 200 times better than your hearing. He can hear the sound of a child riding a tricycle several houses away. He will respond with his voice. You just need to learn how to teach your dog when it's time to be quiet when they hear the proper command.
If non-stop dog barking is an issue you would like to correct, please give Frank Allison, dog trainer a call or click to set up an appointment. Frank would be happy to schedule a private session in your Winnetka home.
