Heredity gave dogs voices but there are procedures to control most of the sounds that come from man's best friend. Dogs in Western Springs that bark at the noise of the family's doorbell or a knock on the door need to be taught your preferred doggy behavior. It is their job to bark when a stranger comes to your Western Springs door but you should teach them that an "okay" from you means everything is fine and your protector can stop growling.
Another complaint we hear from pet owners is the barking at objects such as a shovel or walkers. These are all items a pet can learn to live with quietly. Running fence lines and barking at your Western Springs neighbors and their dogs is not acceptable bad dog behavior either. This "distance" barking can be corrected through training sometimes needing a mild shock collar so you can correct your pet from inside the home. It really doesn't take long for them to learn.
It's important for you to remember that a dog's hearing is over 200x better than your hearing. He can hear your car coming from over a block away. He will respond with his voice. You just need to learn how to teach your pet when it's time to be quiet when they hear the correct signal.
