Heredity gave dogs voices but there are procedures to control most of the sounds that come from dogs. Dogs in Phoenix that bark at the noise of the family's doorbell or a knock on the door need to be taught a greeting ritual. It is their job to bark when a stranger comes to your Phoenix house but you should teach them that an "okay" from you means everything is fine and your dog guardian can stop growling.
Another concern we hear from dog owners is the whining at objects such as a broom or rakes. These are all items a pet can learn to live with quietly. Watching out the window and barking at your Phoenix neighbors and their dogs is not acceptable inappropriate dog behavior either. This "distance" barking can be corrected through training sometimes needing a mild zap collar so you can correct your dog from inside the house. This unacceptable dog behavior can be corrected in a short period of time.
It's important for you to remember that a dog's hearing is over 200 times better than your hearing. He can hear the sound of a child riding a tricycle several houses away. He will respond with his voice. You just need to learn how to teach your pet when it's time to be quiet when they hear the proper command.
If your dog barks too much and this is an issue you would like to correct, please give Frank Allison, dog behaviorist a call or click to set up an appointment. Frank would be happy to schedule a private session in your Phoenix home.
