Heredity gave dogs voices but there are procedures to control most of the sounds that come from your pet. Dogs in Harvey that bark at the noise of the family's doorbell or a knock on the door need to be taught a greeting ritual. It is their job to bark when an unknown person comes to your Harvey door but you should train them that an OK command from you means everything is fine and your protector can stop growling.
Another complaint we hear from dog owners is the barking at objects such as a shovel or tractors. These are all things a canine can learn to live with quietly. Running the property lines and barking at your Harvey neighbors and their dogs is not acceptable inappropriate dog behavior either. This "distance" barking can be corrected through training sometimes needing a mild shock collar so you can correct your dog from inside the from a distance. This unacceptable dog behavior can be corrected in a short period of time.
Most importantly, you must remember that a dog's hearing is over two hundred times better than your hearing. He can hear his dog food being taken out of the car truck in the garage. He will respond with his voice. You just need to learn how to teach your canine when it's time to be quiet when they hear the proper command.
