Heredity gave dogs voices but there are procedures to correct most of the sounds that come from your pet. Dogs in Bedford Park that bark at the noise of the family's doorbell or a knock on the door need to be taught a greeting ritual. It is their job to bark when a stranger comes to your Bedford Park door but you should train them that an OK command from you means everything is fine and your dog guardian can stop barking.
Another complaint we hear from pet owners is the barking at objects such as a shovel or wheelchairs. These are all items a dog can learn to live with quietly. Watching out the window and barking at your Bedford Park neighbors and their dogs is not acceptable bad dog behavior either. This "distance" barking can be corrected through training sometimes needing a mild shock collar so you can correct your pet from inside the home. This unacceptable dog behavior can be corrected in a short period of time.
Most importantly, you must remember that a dog's hearing is over 200x better than your hearing. He can hear a squirrel running up a tree. He will respond with his voice. You just need to learn how to teach your canine when it's time to be quiet when they hear the proper command.
If your dog barks too much and this is an issue you would like to correct, please give Frank Allison, dog obedience trainer a call or click to set up an appointment. Frank would be happy to schedule a private session in your Bedford Park house.
