Heredity gave dogs voices but there are procedures to control most of the sounds that come from man's best friend. Dogs in Prospect that bark at the noise of the house's doorbell or a knock on the door need to be taught a greeting ritual. It is their job to bark when a stranger comes to your Prospect door but you should teach them that an "okay" from you means you have the situation under control and your protector can stop barking.
Another concern we hear from pet owners is the whining at objects such as a broom or walkers. These are all things a pet can learn to live with quietly. Running fence lines and barking at your Prospect neighbors and their dogs is not acceptable bad dog behavior either. This "distance" barking can be corrected through training sometimes needing a mild shock collar so you can correct your pet from inside the from a distance. This unacceptable dog behavior can be corrected in a short period of time.
Most importantly, you must remember that a dog's hearing is over 200x better than your hearing. He can hear your car coming from over a block away. He will respond with his voice. You just need to learn how to teach your pet when it's time to be quiet when they hear the proper command.
If your dog barks too much and this is an issue you would like to correct, please give Frank Allison, dog obedience trainer a call or click to set up an appointment. Frank would be happy to schedule a private session in your Prospect house.
