Heredity gave dogs voices but there are ways to control most of the sounds that come from dogs. Dogs in Lake Five that bark at the noise of the family's doorbell or a knock on the door need to be taught a greeting ritual. It is their job to bark when a stranger comes to your Lake Five door but you should teach them that an "okay" from you means everything is fine and your protector can stop growling.
Another concern we hear from pet owners is the whining at objects such as vacuum cleaners or walkers. These are all items a canine can learn to live with quietly. Running the property lines and barking at your Lake Five neighbors and their dogs is not acceptable bad dog behavior either. This "distance" barking can be corrected through training sometimes needing a mild zap collar so you can correct your canine from inside the home. It really doesn't take long for them to learn.
Most importantly, you must remember that a dog's hearing is over 200 times better than your hearing. He can hear your car coming from over a block away. He will respond with his voice. You just need to learn how to teach your canine when it's time to be quiet when they hear the proper command.
If your dog barks too much and this is an issue you would like to correct, please give Frank Allison, dog trainer a call or click to set up an appointment. Frank would be happy to schedule a private session in your Lake Five house.
