Heredity gave dogs voices but there are ways to control most of the sounds that come from man's best friend. Dogs in Lake Como that bark at the sound of the house's doorbell or a knock on the door need to be taught a greeting ritual. It is their job to bark when an unknown person comes to your Lake Como house but you should teach them that an OK command from you means you have the situation under control and your dog guardian can stop growling.
Another concern we hear from dog owners is the barking at objects such as a shovel or tractors. These are all items a canine can learn to live with quietly. Watching out the window and barking at your Lake Como neighbors and their dogs is not acceptable bad dog behavior either. This "distance" barking can be corrected through training sometimes needing a mild shock collar so you can correct your dog from inside the home. This unacceptable dog behavior can be corrected in a short period of time.
Most importantly, you must remember that a dog's hearing is over 200 times better than your hearing. He can hear a squirrel running up a tree. He will respond with his voice. You just need to learn how to teach your dog when it's time to be quiet when they hear the correct signal.
If your dog barks too much and this is an issue you would like to correct, please give Frank Allison, dog trainer a call or click to set up an appointment. Frank would be happy to schedule a private session in your Lake Como house.
