Heredity gave dogs voices but there are procedures to correct most of the sounds that come from your pet. Dogs in Charlie Bluff that bark at the sound of the house's doorbell or a knock on the door need to be taught a greeting ritual. It is their job to bark when an unknown person comes to your Charlie Bluff door but you should teach them that an "okay" from you means everything is fine and your dog guardian can stop growling.
Another concern we hear from pet owners is the barking at objects such as a broom or tractors. These are all items a dog can learn to live with quietly. Watching out the window and barking at your Charlie Bluff neighbors and their dogs should not be tolerated bad dog behavior either. This "distance" barking can be corrected through training sometimes needing a mild shock collar so you can correct your canine from inside the home. This unacceptable dog behavior can be corrected in a short period of time.
Most importantly, you must remember that a dog's hearing is over two hundred times better than your hearing. He can hear the sound of a child riding a tricycle several houses away. He will respond with his voice. You just need to learn how to teach your pet when it's time to be quiet when they hear the proper command.
If your dog barks too much and this is an issue you would like to correct, please give Frank Allison, dog behaviorist a call or click to set up an appointment. Frank would be happy to schedule a private session in your Charlie Bluff home.
